Netflix Renews Russian Doll for Season 2

Nadia, her glorious hair, and Oatmeal the cat are coming back for more. Netflix has just announced that the Natasha Lyonne-led series Russian Dollhas been renewed for Season 2. This feels like a birthday present, but not one where we're constantly dying over and over again trying to course correct life.

The series -- which was critically hailed from the get-go -- follows Lyonne's Nadia Vulvokov, a coder, as she's forced to relive her 36th birthday again and again because she keeps dying via all sorts of New York City woes: city cabs, open subway grates, a panic attack in a bodega, and stairs, just to name a few. After a while, we learn that Nadia isn't alone, as someone else is reliving this nightmarish day too: Alan Zaveri (Charlie Barnett)..

Eventually, the two are able to right many wrongs in their life. However -- and this is a spoiler alert since it's such a good twist -- the two accidentally end up on completely different post-death timelines in which the other doesn't remember them. While everything appears to be resolved for them, there are a lot of unanswered questions during the show's first season, namely the fact that things are dying and rotting around Nadia, and also people keep disappearing each time she "restarts" a day.

Natasha Lyonne Had the Best Hair of the TV Season on Russian Doll

Before Season 1 premiered, writer and director director Leslye Headland explained to The Hollywood Reporterthat she, Lyonne, and executive producer Amy Poehler (!!) had pitched Netflix "three seasons of the most bonkers, heartfelt, passionate, this-is-what-we-truly-feel-like-is-our-story-to-tell idea." Netflix said, "'Great, the more of that the better. The more you guys this can be the better. Here are the resources and the support -- take off.'"

While there's no word yet on a third season, Season 2 is officially coming. No release date has been announced, but the second season will have eight episodes. One of those better be solely dedicated to Oatmeal. With the announcement, the show's Twitter handle posted a video of Lyonne celebrating the news, accompanied with Harry Nilsson's "Gotta Get Up" as she turns the water on in the bathroom.
