An obscure 1848 novel by the obscurest of the Bronte sisters -- Anne Bronte, to be exact -- served as the foundation for this three-part British miniseries. Tara Fitzgerald starred as Helen Graham who, in hopes of escaping from her cruel husband, took refuge at Wildfell Hall, a Yorkshire estate. The locals, their curiosity aroused by the presence of Helen and her young son, did their best to find out who she was and why she was there, but Helen revealed nothing. The truth finally came out when Helen let down her guard by falling in love with a handsome young country squire. The winner of three Royal Television Society technical awards, The Tennant of Wildfell Hall debuted over the BBC on November 17, 1996, and aired in the U.S. one year later.
